Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at an apartment complex in the Village of Twin Lakes on the morning of March 22.
Police were dispatched to the Tan Oak Apartments, located near Wilmot Avenue and 110th Street, at approximately 9:02 a.m. following reports of a shooting. According to initial information from police scanner audio, the caller—believed to be the suspected shooter—contacted dispatch and stated that the victim was beyond help and had died.
Upon arrival, officers entered the residence and discovered a 38-year-old woman deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators also noted that a glass sliding door inside the apartment had been struck by gunfire, indicating multiple shots may have been fired during the incident.
Inside the home, officers located an 11-month-old child and a dog. Authorities confirmed that both were unharmed and were safely removed from the scene.
A 35-year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the incident. Police have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
