Peoria Shooting Incident-Normal, South Africa: Six People Shot and Hospitalized, Fighting for their Lives In Peoria

A 17-year-old boy from Peoria was among six people injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in Normal, according to local authorities.

Police said officers responded around 2:40 a.m. to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue, just south of the Illinois State University campus, after receiving reports of multiple gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they discovered several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene.

In total, six people were injured in the incident. All victims were transported to nearby hospitals and are reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released their names.

Those injured include the 17-year-old from Peoria, as well as a 17-year-old boy from Bloomington. Additional victims include an 18-year-old woman from Normal, an 18-year-old man from Bloomington, a 19-year-old man from Bloomington, and a 19-year-old woman from Chicago.

Police have not yet provided details on what led to the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and speak with witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The area was secured for several hours as officers processed the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials have not indicated any ongoing threat to the public but say updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
