Steven “Big Country” Edward Lee Bruner, 40, of Clarksville, passed away on March 21, 2026, at his home, leaving behind a legacy of service, compassion, and deep devotion to his family. Born on July 12, 1985, to William Bruner and Jennifer Hires, Steven grew into a man whose presence could light up a room and whose character left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Steven proudly served as a Deputy with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department, a role he embraced with pride and unwavering dedication. He was deeply committed to protecting and serving his community, and his genuine care for others was evident in every aspect of his work. Known for his approachable nature, Steven never met a stranger—people were naturally drawn to his warmth, kindness, and willingness to help. His service was not just a profession but a calling he carried out with integrity and heart.
Above all, Steven was a devoted father and family man. He cherished his children and built his life around the love he had for them. Whether he was cooking a meal for loved ones, spending quiet time hunting in the woods, fishing on the water, or playing his guitar and singing, Steven found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. Those closest to him will forever treasure the memories created in those times.
Affectionately known as “Big Country,” Steven was also a loyal friend and a man of strong faith. His love for the Lord guided his life, and he reflected that faith through his actions—showing kindness, generosity, and compassion to all. He was a steady presence in the lives of many and will be remembered for the way he made others feel valued and cared for.
Steven is survived by his father, William Bruner; his mother, Jennifer Hires; his sons, William Edward Bruner “Web” and Benjamin Lee Bruner, both of Marianna; his beloved girlfriend, Carla Hoxie; his brother, Joshua Charles Bruner of Blountstown; and his grandfather, Emmanuel Hires of Blountstown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, at RCC in Blountstown, with visitation beginning at 2:00 PM CT and the service at 3:00 PM CT. Interment will follow at Victory Hill Cemetery in Altha. Arrangements are entrusted to Peavy Funeral Home.
